At the 250th pass and most of Pern has become a desert. With very little green land, everyone had to move to where they could harvest and do everything they needed to do. Dragons were very rare since they had no duties anymore. The dragonriders with their single clutching queen decided that it would be best to move to a single Weyr. After much debating they found a Weyr close to a beautiful lake. Naming the Weyr Ateanic, they all settled in happily. The dragon rider's these days did odd jobs around the Holds helping out when they can. They also search for more land in hopes to find some place for more places to live. Their Queen dragon began to rise less and less often. She laid only small clutches, and only laid a Golden egg before she was too old to even rise once more. This Golden Queen named herself Rhenith.
Fifty turns after Ateanic Weyr was founded, Golden Rhenith laid the largest clutch in a long time. There was over twenty five eggs laid, much more then what the dragon rider’s were use to. Instead of using their own children, they decided to set out a search. Most of the dragons at this time were much older and it wasn’t easy on them to travel very much. Once Rhenith allowed her rider to see the eggs for the first time, much to everyone’s shock the largest egg was a bluish purple. All of the others eggs were colored each different yet similar all at once.
Hatching day had finally came, there were only thirty candidates standing to impress and only three were female since it had been decided there was no Gold. Yet to everyone’s surprise the dragons that began to hatch were not the usual colors they had grown use to. The dragonriders were not too sure what to think, but all the dragons that had hatched looked as if they would grown out to be huge. Two turns passed by and two of the dragons that had hatched rose to mate only a few days apart. Many of the riders were unsure what to think. They had two more clutching females. When those hatchings occured the same colors from before had hatched. What happened to the Gold, Bronze, Brown, Blue, and Green colors? Why had they changed?
Since that day one hundred turns have passed and the old colors have become just legends. Tanzanite had taken the place of the Gold. Topaz the place for both Bronze and Brown. Emerald the place of Greens. Zircon the place of Blues. Crystals took the place of the legendary Whites, but are hatched a bit more often then the Whites ever did. At the same time, it has been over many turns since the red star last showed its face. It seemed as if White Ruth did not take his rider far enough into the future to make sure the Red Star would never show its face again. In this New Pern, the old colors of dragons have been long forgotten, but new colors have arisen to take their places. Only one Weyr stands now, with only three holds to protect. What will happen when Thread officially shows its face? Will the dragon riders be able to protect everyone?
Ateanic Weyr is home to a Senior Queen and two Junior Queens. What will come of the Senior Queen's new clutch? Will their be more clutching females? If there is, a New Weyr will need to be found soon, too many clutching females in one area is not always a good idea.
